Gathering with one another has been a great joy through the various events that took place in 2024. As a community based creative agency, we take extra thought and care in how we execute our events to best serve all in attendance.
From reflective goal-setting and tea-blending sessions at the Q2 Hustle Hub with Lethally Her; to our nourishing intergenerational Windrush Tea Party that allowed the preservation of traditional recipes, growing info-sessions by Black Rootz and a flavourful shared meal thanks to Garden of Afruika. We want to thank all ourppls who have attended one or more of our events, we can't wait to see you again, be it out on the fields or at our next giveback.
'Together we can do so much'
We would not be anywhere without all the organisations, collectives and companies we've partnered with. We are deeply grateful to do this work alongside other individuals who are equally as committed to supporting our community and cultures.
Our #OpportuntiyRoundups aim to connect you to creative opportunities on a weekly basis. If you are on the lookout for funding, submission calls, training programmes, screenings or networking events, be sure to check in every week for our latest curated list.
The first roundup for this year is up, so don't miss out on starting your year off right!
'We are growing!'
Month by month, week by week and day by day, ourppls has steadily grown over the last year and we couldn't be prouder.
While it's never easy to pick favourites, these three moments were a massive highlight for us in 2024!
The return of the long anticipated GUAP X V&A Friday Lates presented an opportunity to offer hands-on work experience learning how to curate and produce your own Friday Late, from our very own founder Elsie Cullen. From 125 sign-ups, 30+ individuals were able to pitch, curate and produce various aspects of the takeover at the world's largest museum of applied arts, decorative arts and design, here in London.
Our partnership with Milk Honey Bees keeps going from strength to strength and we can't stop thinking about how amazing 'H.E.R Playground' was. The first of it's kind, this interactive wellbeing festival for Black girls aged 16-25 invited us all to embrace our inner child by welcoming play, curiosity and exploration. Words alone cannot do justice to how fun and enriching this was, so make sure to watch the recap video here.
If you haven't heard already, Black at Glasto is redefining and archiving the experience and contribution of Black people and culture at Glastonbury festival. The beautifully written photoessay for the Guardian by Ethan Joseph and Ollie Tikare captures the essence of #BlackAtGlasto and the much needed reclamation of joy within this space. The overwhelming reception of what started as a community link up but is shaping into much more, makes us excited for what this year has in store. With that said, we would love to hear from you (see below).
Ourppls.Heart
